I traveled to Guadalupe Island, Mexico to photograph one of the most misunderstood animals on the planet, the great white shark. People call me crazy, but it's quite relaxing being in the water with them, even if it is in a cage. On average, only 10 people are killed a year by sharks, and that's only because of mistaken identity. Humans are NOT on their diet. On the contrary, because of irrational fears and unfounded health myths, more than 100,000,000 (yes, 100 MILLION) sharks are killed each year. More people are killed by cows each year. Sharks are an apex predator and vital to a healthy ocean. Without enough sharks of all kinds, the oceans will not survive. Please join me in spreading the love for these amazing creatures. This photo won first place in the popular Scuba Diving magazine for best underwater photo 2016.
